West Hungarian Research Institute of the Centre for Regional Studies (WHRI)
The West Hungarian Research Institute is part of the Centre for Regional Studies (CRS). CRS serves as an independent regional research institute within the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The Centre, which operates as a network of institutes, was founded in 1983, and during the last two decades became research base for domestic spatial and regional development research. With more than 110 employees it played and still plays a dominant role in creation, carrying out and training of regional sciences in co-operation with the European system of sciences. The West Hungarian Research Institute (WHRI) was founded in 1986 in Györ as an institution of the CRS. The mission of WHRI is to study regional processes in one of the most dynamic areas of Hungary. Research of the institute focus on the spatial aspects of innovations, local and regional economic development and the policy implications of these studies. WHRI is especially dealing with the diffusion of innovation factors, the development process of larger regions, regional and innovation strategic planning of regions, cluster-building processes, economic structural change and enterprise development.
