Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH)
The Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (Royal Institute of Technology, KTH), based in Stockholm, is responsible for one third of Sweden's capacity for technical research and training of engineers at university level. The education and research is high international class and covers a broad spectrum of subjects – from natural sciences to all branches of technology and on to architecture, industrial economics, spatial planning, work sciences and environmental technology. Of special relevance for the RICARDA project is the school's involvement in the Centre for Science and Innovation Studies (CESIS) which was established in January 2004, encompassing a scientific staff of about 30. CESIS' mission is to organise and carry out studies of innovation systems – with a specific focus on innovation activities in Sweden. The ambition is to provide a deeper understanding of the interdependencies between R&D, innovations and economic development. A key issue in CESIS' research is to uncover major driving forces in innovation activities: These may include aspects such as knowledge provision, organisational structures, entrepreneurship, institutional settings and economic conditions with regard to capital supply, competition patterns and market demand.
