14 research units and more than 350 high trained employees make JOANNEUM RESEARCH, based in Graz, Styria, one of the largest non-university research institutions in Austria. Its role as an innovative partner for business and administration is reflected in its wide range of services: apart from applied research and development for small and medium-sized enterprises it offers custom-designed technical business consulting and vast expertise in interdisciplinary management of complex research contracts at a national and international level.
As an innovation partner for business, industry and public administration JOANNEUM RESEARCH focuses on applied research and technological development in cutting-edge key technologies. At present, it receives 40 % of its contracts from business enterprises and 41 % from public authorities. Close cooperation with the Styrian universities allows JOANNEUM RESEARCH to concentrate on applied research and to deal with the customers' wishes in detail. About a third of the JOANNEUM RESEARCH heads of institute are university professors or university lecturers. This close link provides access to fundamental research on the one hand and ensures a steady supply of young and highly talented university graduates on the other.
